Although we had no electricity in church this morning, the place was certainly lit with hearty laughs and cheerful smiles of God’s people as we enjoyed each other’s company.

Love does knit hearts together. Lovingly, be devoted to others. Enjoy God’s people.

Happy Sunday!

Love, the Greatest Gift

God refreshed my soul to observe how high love ought to be regarded in our lives. He brought me to 1 Corinthians 13. I pray your soul will be illuminated by the life of these words, and that letters literally jumped out and be absorbed into your very being so you can produce a love-filled personality:

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

When God “Pokes” You

God is poking me. He just is today.

In a student group, a student preached from Psalms 73 on developing eternal perspective while living on earth.

The message did impress me, but what really impacted me were verses 25, 26 & 28:

Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.

My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works. (Psalm 73:25, 26, 28 NKJV)

Great passage that nudges us to desire God’s closeness in a world full of trivial distractions.

Read it. Great. Then later it came in a conversation. Then as a post on Facebook. Then on Facebook again.

I think God is poking me- giving me some nudges to really digest these words into my being.

God does have a habit in poking people. Little Samuel couldn’t sleep because he kept hearing Someone calling his name.*

Whenever He is tapping for your attention, look up; because He has remarkable secrets for you.

Has God poked you yet?

*1 Samuel 3

Living Life by This Verse

After surveying this verse, I’ve dared myself to live by it:

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” (Galatians 6:7, 8 NKJV)

It’s God’s law of stewardship. He has justified the produce of our work. When I gorge chunks of my time on Facebook and YouTube then I should expect to recover from poor grades, lost family quality time, and a deficient prayer life.

But if I invest in like seeking God, I should glean a more satisfying, meaningful relationship and more experiences of His power and blessing in my life.

And you can apply this verse to anything! Make wise investments. Take this verse to heart as you do so:

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. (Galatians 6:9 NKJV)

Pray for me that I’ll be faithful in doing so, and I’ll pray that Jesus will develop the same zeal in you also.
